Quickly save an email to Microsoft Teams

Drag An Email Into Teams

Do you want to consolidate all your communications in Microsoft Teams but some people keep sending you emails? And want to quickly save an email to Microsoft Teams?

My #teamstoptip will show you can just drag and drop your Outlook emails straight into Teams.

Make sure both Outlook and Teams are visible

If you have two screens then open Outlook in one screen and the Teams app open in the second screen.

If you don’t have two screens then I recommend you have display both apps showing on your screen. This is easy to do.

  • Select the Outlook app and select the Window key and the Left arrow. Outlook is snapped to the left half of the screen.
  • Select the Microsoft Teams app and select the Window key and the Right arrow. Teams is snapped to the left half of the screen.

Make sure that Outlook is open on the emails page and that Teams is displaying the channel where the email will be saved to.

Then simply follow one of the two following options:

1. Share your email with a message in a channel conversation

Here are the steps:

  1. In Outlook select the email you want to add to Teams.
  2. Keep your finger held on the left mouse button and drag your email into your Teams app
  3. Drag your email into a Teams channel conversation.
  4. The email is uploaded as an attachment
  5. Optionally add any message and send the message
  6. The email is automatically stored in the channel folder
  7. Option 2: Drag your email into Teams channel Files tab under the appropriate folder.
  8. In this scenario you can add in an optional message to the members of the team. In addition the email is automatically saved into the channel file folder.

2. Just file the email straight into the channel Files tab.

Here are the steps:

  1. In Outlook select the email you want to add to Teams.
  2. Keep your finger held on the left mouse button and drag your email into your Teams app
  3. Drag your email into Teams channel Files tab under the appropriate folder.
  4. In this scenario you can add in an optional message to the members of the team. In addition the email is automatically saved into the channel file folder.
